PLANNING FOR INSTRUCTION

  • LESSON 1

     

    Objectives:

     

    1. Students can name different types of volunteer work.
    2. Students can share their volunteering experience.
    3. Students can recognize and be able to properly use the
      new vocabulary.

     

    Vocabulary:

     

    义工、帮工、帮助     Optional: 志愿者

     

    Activity 1: Brainstorm

     

    1. Within 5 minutes, interview as many students as possible to find answers for the teacher’s questions.
    2. 3 students per group to brainstorm and give a report.
    • 你做过义工吗?
    • 你做过什么义工?/为什么你没做过义工?
    • 请说说你的同学常常做什么义工?

     

    Activity 2: Ask, answer and learn

     

    1. What types of volunteer work do you know?
    2. What do you do in that type of volunteer work?

     

    Activity 3: Group work and presentation

     

    1. Interview - Find a classmate who has had the following
      volunteer experience.
    2. Present your results.

     

  • LESSON 2

     

    Objectives:

     

    1. Students can list what they are able to learn from a volunteer.
    2. Students can recognize and properly use the new vocabulary.

     

    Vocabulary:

     

    退休、社区、老人     Optional: 农村、医疗、筹款

     

    Activity 1: Warm up

     

    1. Review Chinese characters and sentence structures learned
      from the last lesson.
    2. Name the types of volunteer work.

     

    Activity 2: Ask and answer

     

    What can you learn from doing volunteer work?

     

    Activity 3: Group work

     

    Please choose one type of volunteer work  to write down:

    1. What it is.
    2. What you have learned from the work.
    3. How it affects your life.

     

  • LESSON 3

     

    Objectives:

     

    1. Students can introduce another volunteer and say what he/she does and what they have learned from him/her.
    2. Students can recognize and properly use the new vocabulary.

     

    Vocabulary:

     

    辅导、孩子、服务、需要     Optional: 实用的、建立、团队

     

    Activity 1: Warm up

     

    1. Review Chinese characters and sentence structures learned
      from the last lesson.
    2. What can you learn from a volunteer?

     

    Activity 2: Vocabulary game

     

    1. Please write down the English meaning for the vocabulary terms.
    2. Memory Match Game - match the Chinese with the English.

     

    Activity 3: Presentation

     

    Find a volunteer around you. Present on what he/she does and
    what you have learned from him/her.

     

  • LESSON 4

     

    Objectives:

     

    1. Students can describe how volunteer work affects them.
    2. Student can exchange opinions on volunteer work.
    3. Students can recognize and properly use the new vocabulary.

     

    Vocabulary:

     

    合作、收入、花费、学会     Optional: 团队、保持、积极、心态

     

    Activity 1: Warm up

     

    1. Review Chinese characters and sentence structures learned
      from the last lesson.
    2. Find a volunteer around you. Present on what he/she does
      and what you have learned from him/her.

     

    Activity 2: Ask and answer

     

    1. How has volunteer work affected you?
    2. Do you want to be a volunteer? Why?/ Why not?

     

    Activity 3: Group work

     

    Please discuss with your classmates and generate at least two pros and cons of doing volunteer work, and state which side you support and why.

     

    Activity 4: Debate

    Activity 2: Ask, answer and learn

     

    1. 你做过义工吗?
    2. 你在哪里做过义工?
    3. 做义工时,你做了什么?
    4. 做义工时,你学到或者学会了什么?
    5. 你的同学常常做什么义工?
    6. 你为什么愿意做义工?
    7. 你为什么不愿意做义工?

     

    Activity 3: Writing and presentation

     

    Think about your volunteering experience. Ask yourself:

    • Where did you go to do the volunteer work?
    • How many people were involved?
    • What did you do and how did it go?
    • How did you feel after the volunteer work?
    • What do you think of volunteer work?
    • Share your volunteering experience.
