  • LESSON 1

     

    Objectives:

     

    1. Students can list the Chinese celebrities they know
    2. Students can describe their favorite celebrities. (Field, look, personality.)
    3. Students can recognize and be able to use the new
      vocabulary properly.
    4. Student can identify the main idea and some supporting details
      in the video resources on this topic.

     

    Vocabulary:

     

    名人、政治、体育、影星、歌星、迷、粉丝

    Optional: 开朗、害羞、幽默、演员

     

    Activity 1: Brainstorm

     

    1. Video
    2. Who did you see in the video?

     

    Activity 2: Ask, answer and learn

     

    1. What American celebrities do you know?
    2. What Chinese celebrities do you know?

     

    Activity 3: Group work

     

    Interview your friend and ask him/her which celebrities he/she knows, and which ones they are a fan of.

     

    Activity 4: Presentation

     

    Describe one of the famous people you know in the Chinese-speaking word. What kind of celebrity is he/she? What does he/she look like?
    What is he/she like?

    Objectives:

    2. Students can write and tell a story about Jackie Chan.

    Activity 1: Warm up

     

    1. Review Chinese characters and sentence structures learned
      from the last lesson.
    2. Who is your favorite celebrity?

     

    Activity 2: Listen and learn

     

    1. Show a picture of Jackie Chan and introduce him.
    2. Listen to a story about Jackie Chan and answer the questions.

     

    Activity 3: Group work

     

    1. Listen and take notes.
    2. Work with your friend and create a story about Jackie Chan.

     

    Activity 4: Presentation

     

    Tell the story of Jackie Chan.

    1. Students can exchange opinions on why Jackie Chan, Jay Chou,
      Yao Ming, and/or Lin Shuhao is/are so famous.
    2. Students can list the works of Jackie Chan, Jay Chou, Yao Ming,
      and Lin Shuhao.
    3. Student can identify the main idea and some supporting details
      in the video resources on this topic.
    4. Students can recognize and properly use the new vocabulary.

     

    Vocabulary:

     

    出生、长大、留学、专业、厨师、京剧迷、领事馆、家庭主妇、擅长

    Optional: 香港、戏曲、失败、最终、表演风格、翻译

    Use 擅长to state why Jay Chou, Yao Ming, and Lin Shuhao are famous?

    Talk about one of your favorite celebrities and say why he/she is famous.

    1. Work in groups. Choose one of your favorite celebrities.
      Tell your friend:
      Where and when was he/she born?
    2. Make a presentation

     

    Activity 4: Game

     

    Slap-Vocab

    1. Divide students into groups of 3-4 .
    2. Give one set of vocabulary cards to each group.
    3. Students will take turns shuffling the cards. The card shuffler for each round will look at the freshly shuffled deck and pick one card that
      will be the special card for the round and tell the other students in the group what he/she has chosen. Without moving or showing where the card is located, the shuffler will place the cards in a face down pile.
    4. The shuffler will now flip over cards from the top of the pile one by one. If the card is not the special card, the other students must read it out loud correctly. They will continue flipping cards over until they read the “special card.” The student to slap that special card first, read it out loud correctly, and create a sentence using the word gets to keep the card.
    5. Students will continue taking turns flipping cards until all the
      cards have been taken. The three students with the most cards
      will win a prize.
