PLANNING FOR INSTRUCTION

  • LESSON 1

     

    Objectives:

     

    1. Students can gain a general understanding about pollution.
    2. Students can list the common items that cause pollution at school.
    3. Students can recognize and properly use the new vocabulary.

     

    Vocabulary:

     

         污染、身边、物品、造成、垃圾     Optional: 灯泡、空调

     

    Activity 1: Brainstorm

     

    1. Watch a video.
    2. What is the video about?
    3. What are the most common types of pollution around us at school?

     

    Activity 2: Ask, answer, and learn

     

    What common items can cause pollution at school?

     

    Activity 3: Game

     

    1. Matching Activity - Match the words with the pictures.
    2. Students vs. teacher

    Make a vocabulary PPT slide. Tell the students you are going to say
    what’s on the slide one by one. If the teacher said it right, then the students should “chorally” repeat the word; otherwise, students should remain silent. If any student makes a sound, teacher gets a point; however, if the students stay silent, the students get a point.
    Continue playing until the last slide is shown.

     

    Activity 4: Group work

     

    Students tell their partners the common items that cause
    pollution at school.

     

  • LESSON 2

     

    Objectives:

     

    1. Students can identify the types of pollution.
    2. Students can categorize different types of pollution.
    3. Students can recognize and use the new vocabulary properly.

     

    Vocabulary:

     

    纸、一次性、碗筷、电池、废纸、塑料、废水

    Optional: 汽车尾气、化学物品

     

    Activity 1: Warm up

     

    1. Review Chinese characters and sentence structures learned
      from the last lesson.
    2. List the common items that cause pollution at school.

     

    Activity 2: Ask, answer and learn

     

    Of the types of pollution students listed, which categories do
    they belong to?

     

    Activity 3: Discussion

     

    1. What kinds of pollution are around us?
    2. What categories do they belong to?

     

    Activity 4: Game

     

    1. Match the categories with the pictures.
    2. Match the categories with the words.

     

  • LESSON 3

     

    Objectives:

     

    1. Students can exchange their ideas on what causes solid waste
      and air, water, and soil pollution.
    2. Students can distinguish between different types of environmental protection signs and know where they might see them.

     

    Vocabulary:

     

    大气、土壤、办法、保护、环境

     

    Activity 1: Warm up

     

    1. Review Chinese characters and sentence structures learned
      from the last lesson.
    2. List the categories of pollution.

     

    Activity 2: Ask, answer and learn

     

    1. What items can cause solid waste pollution?
    2. What items can cause air pollution?
    3. What items can cause water pollution?

    Survey Activity: Prepare a check list for all the environmental protection signs in a school or classroom, and conduct a survey in the class.

    2. Students can write a passage on how to protect the environment.
    3. Students can recognize and properly use the new vocabulary.

    Activity 3: Interview

     

    What we can do to protect the school environment. Present the results.

     

    Activity 4: Writing

     

    Write a short passage on how to protect the environment.

     

  • LESSON 5

     

    Objectives:

     

    1. Student can state what they have learned about “Haze”
      (its definition, causes, effects, and ways to control it).
    2. Students can express the significance of protecting the environment.
    3. Students can recognize and use the new vocabulary properly.
    4. Student can identify the main idea and some supporting details
      in the video resources on this topic.
