  • LESSON 1

     

    Objectives:

     

    1. Students can provide information on the biggest festival in China
      and introduce how Chinese people celebrate it.
    2. Students can list the names of different Chinese traditional festivals.
    3. Students can introduce different Chinese traditional festivals -
      name, date, and ways to celebrate it.
    4. Students can identify the main idea and some supporting details
      in the video resources on this topic.
    5. Students can recognize and properly use the new vocabulary.

     

    Vocabulary:

     

    元宵、端午、七夕、农历、灯笼、谜语、龙舟、粽     Optional: 清明

     

    Activity 1: Brainstorm

     

    1. What is the biggest American holiday and how is it celebrated?
    2. What is the biggest Chinese holiday?
    3. Do you know anything about the Spring Festival?
      How do Chinese people celebrate it?
    4. Do Chinese celebrate the Spring Festival in America?
      How is it celebrate in America?

     

    Activity 2: Ask, answer, and learn

     

    Please List the Chinese Festivals you know - name, date, and
    ways to celebrate it.

     

    Activity 3: Watch and say

    1. Video
    2. Repeat the names of the festivals you learn from the video.

     

    Activity 4: Game

     

    Memory Game

    1. Teacher gives each group one set of playing cards found in the Memory Game resource.
    2. Teacher instructs the students to shuffle the cards and then place the cards face down to form a rectangle so the cards are not touching one another.
    3. Students will then take turns flipping over two cards per turn; if the Chinese characters and picture match, you can keep them; if not, put the cards back in their original spot, and it is the next player’s turn.
    4. Students will continue taking turns flipping cards until all the pairs have been found.

    Optional: 除尘、备年货、联欢晚会、守岁、逛庙会
